The Theatre & Dance Department at CU-Boulder was losing 90K per season, with show attendace at a third of capacity.

Hired as the Marketing, PR, and Publications Director, I developed the first discernible brand and robust marketing function gaining strategic insights through collaborations with leadership, faculty, students, staff, alumni, and community leaders.

I started with the design and launch of a vibrant, intuitive website using a shifting palette of sepia/green/gold (the school colors) showcasing the overarching University brand, the department’s provocative programming, stellar faculty, and comprehensive academics, articulating the energy of performance. The site won the Communication Arts WEBPICK.

To follow, I developed and deployed a comprehensive integrated brand marketing and PR strategy.

    The result: theatre attendance increased by 30% in year 2, with brand equity and awareness encouraging donor contributions and multiple sponsorships.

    From season and individual production promotional campaigns spanning print collateral, print and digital advertsing, social campaigns, email campaigns, events, a commercial aired at the local cinema, and a bank of photography and video assets, our new in-house agency met the marketing and creative needs of 16 annual productions, an academic department, and dozens of faculty.
